NHAI Partners with SPV for ₹673 Crore Logistics Park Development in Nagpur

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has entered into an agreement with DC Multi Modal Park (Nagpur) Limited, a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) associated with DeltaBulk Shipping India Pvt Ltd, to initiate the development of a Multi Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Nagpur. Spanning an area of 150 acres, this project is valued at an estimated cost of Rs 673 crore and will be executed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model. Positioned as the first MMLP in Maharashtra under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan, this endeavor holds significant importance in the nation's developmental landscape.

The MMLP will unfold in three phases, with the initial phase requiring an investment of Rs 137 crore and an anticipated completion within two years. Designed to handle approximately 9.47 million metric tonnes (MMT) of cargo over a 45-year horizon, the logistics park is expected to stimulate industrial zones in the surrounding areas of Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, and Gondiya. The project is set to generate substantial employment opportunities, fostering economic development in the region, according to a statement from the Ministry of Road Transport & Highways.

Strategically located at Sindi (near the railway station) in Wadha district of Maharashtra, the MMLP site is positioned around 3km from the Nagpur–Mumbai Maha-Samruddhi Mahamarg and the Howrah–Nagpur-Mumbai rail line. The site is equipped with a 3km rail siding from Sindi Railway station on the Hawrah-Nagpur-Mumbai rail line, and it is accessible from the four-lane Nagpur–Aurangabad, NH 361. Furthermore, the site is 48km away from Nagpur International Airport and 56km from Nagpur railway station.

The government-formed SPV, Nagpur MMLP Pvt Ltd, is a collaboration between National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a wholly-owned NHAI company, and Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). JNPA has provided the land for the MMLP's development, while NHLML is facilitating external rail and road connectivity, water and power supply.

The MMLP is anticipated to offer a range of facilities, including warehouses, cold storages, intermodal transfers, container terminals, bulk/break-bulk cargo terminals, along with value-added services like sorting/grading, aggregation/desegregation areas, bonded warehouses, customs facilities, and supporting logistics facilities such as offices for freight forwarders, transporters, and truck terminals.

The development of the MMLP aligns with the Government of India's strategic initiative to enhance the country's freight logistics sector, focusing on efficient intermodal freight movement, cost reduction, improved warehousing, and enhanced tracking and traceability of consignments. This ambitious project aims to boost the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector and contribute to the overall development of the nation's infrastructure.
