NHPC Powers Up Portion of 300 MW Solar Plant in Rajasthan.
NHPC Limited has announced the successful commissioning of the fourth phase of its 300 MW Karnisar Solar Power Project in Bikaner, Rajasthan. Following a successful trial run on June 29, 2025, the Commercial Operation Date (COD) for this part capacity of 53.57 MW was declared effective from June 30, 2025.
This latest achievement brings the cumulative commercial operation capacity of the Karnisar project to 214.28 MW out of the total 300 MW. The phased commissioning strategy employed by NHPC reflects a systematic approach to integrate large-scale solar capacity into the national grid.
The Karnisar Solar Power Project is a significant step in NHPC's diversification into renewable energy, moving beyond its traditional hydroelectric focus. This ongoing expansion is crucial for India's renewable energy goals, especially in sun-rich states like Rajasthan, which are rapidly transforming into key clean energy hubs. The remaining capacity of the 300 MW project is expected to be commissioned in due course, further solidifying India's position as a leader in renewable energy.
