In a fiery speech delivered at a rally in Jodhpur on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Ashok Gehlot-led government in Rajasthan, accusing it of compromising the future of thousands of young individuals in the state due to its alleged involvement with the "paper leak mafia."
During his impassioned address, Prime Minister Modi stated, "The 'red diary' holds records of every corrupt act by the Congress. To expose this, a BJP government must be formed in the state." He raised eyebrows by highlighting Chief Minister Gehlot's absence at an official event, insinuating that Gehlot had confidence in the smooth functioning of proceedings only in the presence of Modi. "It was a government program, yet the Chief Minister was absent. Why was he not there? Because he believes that if Modi is present, everything will be fine," Modi asserted.
Amid his sharp critique, Prime Minister Modi announced an array of significant projects for Rajasthan, collectively valued at ₹5,000 crore. These projects include the establishment of a 350-bedded trauma center and a critical care hospital block at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Jodhpur. Additionally, seven critical care blocks are slated for construction across the state under the Pradhan Mantri Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM). Modi underlined the importance of these initiatives, stating, "Together, we have to make Rajasthan a developed and prosperous state."
During his visit, Modi inaugurated the campus of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Jodhpur and laid the foundation stones for several other noteworthy ventures, such as a new terminal building at Jodhpur Airport and multiple road development projects.
The Prime Minister specifically highlighted the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) commitment to positioning Rajasthan as a frontrunner in the field of tourism. He called upon voters to support the BJP to realize this vision. "Who can make that happen? I can't do that; your vote can. With the strength of your votes, the BJP will form the government in Rajasthan, and it will become the leading state in tourism," Modi urged.
This marks Prime Minister Modi's second visit to Rajasthan within the week. On Monday, he inaugurated development projects valued at ₹7,000 crore in Chittorgarh. Concurrently, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot recently approved ₹18 crore for tourism-related initiatives.
With the Rajasthan state Assembly elections on the horizon later this year, both major political parties are focusing their efforts on developing infrastructure that could bolster the state's tourism potential. The Congress and BJP have traditionally been dominant players in Rajasthan's political landscape, with power alternating between the two. In the most recent elections in 2018, the Congress emerged victorious.
