The Rajasthan High Court has ordered the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to complete the Bhankrota flyover project on the Jaipur-Ajmer highway by April 1, 2025, without further delays. The directive follows a hearing on Wednesday regarding the ongoing delay in the flyover's construction.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the delay, the court emphasized the need for the flyover's timely completion, citing the persistent traffic congestion in the area. The court also voiced concern over highway encroachments, warning that any obstructions would not be tolerated.
The court instructed NHAI to submit an action plan for managing traffic diversions during the ongoing construction, with a deadline of two weeks for submission.
During the hearing, NHAI officials requested a three-month extension to complete the flyover. However, the court firmly rejected the request, reaffirming that the flyover must be operational by April 1, 2025.
Additionally, the court addressed concerns about the highway's width and the encroachments on the service roads, insisting that the highway’s width should remain at 48 meters. NHAI was also directed to submit an affidavit regarding encroachments on the Kamala Nehru Nagar flyover and its service lanes by February 17.
The court had previously expressed its dissatisfaction with the prolonged delay in completing the flyover. Despite initial expectations for completion between July and August, the Bhankrota flyover remains far from finished, exacerbating traffic problems in the area.
Advocates Kamlesh Rose, Dharmendra Chaudhary, and Seema Rose, representing petitioners, criticized NHAI for repeatedly extending construction deadlines. NHAI's legal representative, Advocate Sandeep Pathak, clarified that the firm handling the Bhankrota flyover had completed five of the six flyovers it was contracted to build, with only the Bhankrota flyover still under construction.
