RIL eyes on renewable energy sector
New Delhi/Chandigarh: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) today evinced keen interest to tap renewable energy in Punjab to further augment power generation.
An assurance to this effect was given by a delegation led by the group president of corporate affairs of RIL, A Shankar, to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal in Kapurthala House in New Delhi this afternoon.
Shankar requested the chief minister to enhance the subsidy for installation of projects based on non-conventional sources of energy in the state.
He said that RIL had a proven track of expertise and technology in the field and had deliberately chosen Punjab as their investment destination because it had an investor-friendly climate and policies.
Taking part in the deliberations, Badal asked Shankar to explore the potential of wind energy in Punjab.
He reiterated his commitment to make Punjab a power surplus state by adding 6,000 Mw within the next three years.
He said that he will take up the matter with the Ministry of Renewable and Non-Conventional Energy soon for reviving the subsidy on solar water-pumping sets which had been discontinued by the Centre since a few years.
