Rs. 25 crore allotted for bridge: Hibi.
The State government has sanctioned Rs.24.9 crore for construction of the long proposed Vaduthala-Perandoor bridge over the Thevara-Perandoor canal.
Earlier in January this year, the Public Works department had carried out a test piling for the bridge, which will have a width of 11.05 metres and a length of 100 metres. To be built with three spans, the bridge is proposed to have a 12-metres approach road on its both ends.
According to Hibi Eden, MLA, the amount allotted by the government will be sufficient to meet the cost of acquiring 70 cents of land required for the project, in addition to the cost of construction. Works are slated to begin soon after the upcoming Assembly elections.
The proposed bridge connecting either banks of the canal is expected to come up near Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Vaduthala.
Once the bridge opens to traffic, the travel time between Vaduthala and Perandoor will be considerably reduced.
The bridge will also help people reach Edappally without having to pass through busy junctions like Ernakulam North, Kaloor and Palarivattom.
