"Rs. 605 Crore Road Revamp Project Set for Completion by February 2024"

The Thane municipal commissioner has set a firm deadline for the completion of the extensive Rs. 605 crore road renovation project in Thane. The announcement came following a comprehensive review meeting with all relevant departments involved in the ambitious initiative. The directive is aimed at ensuring that all works are finalized before March 2024 when the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections could potentially be enforced.

During the meeting, the municipal commissioner emphasized the importance of swift execution, especially for the road revamp work, which is considered a prestigious undertaking. The impending Lok Sabha elections could trigger the enforcement of the code of conduct any time after March 1, 2024.

Under the broad initiative of 'Mukhyamantryanche Badalte Thane,' a vast network of roads is scheduled for upgrades to improve their motorist-friendliness.

Municipal officials disclosed that the city has an extensive road network spanning 381 kilometers. A significant portion of this network has already been upgraded and smoothed, leaving approximately 172 kilometers for further attention. The corporation has taken on the task of revamping 142 kilometers of these roads, with the state approving funds of Rs. 214 crore and Rs. 391 crore for the purpose. Among these, 10 kilometers will be concretized, 55 kilometers will be revamped using ultra-thin white topping (UTWT) technology, and the remaining segments will receive asphalt resurfacing.

An official statement highlighted the municipal commissioner's directive to expedite all pending works, including those related to roads, toilet facilities, and school building repairs. Tenders for newly proposed projects should be published well in advance to ensure their initiation before February 2024. The statement also noted that all road works in the city, which were halted during the monsoon season, have been resumed.

The commissioner also expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the garden department and urged teams to prioritize the maintenance of parks and gardens in public areas. Additionally, he emphasized the need to maintain public toilets and other facilities in good condition.
