Rs. 997.65-crore plan.

The government has cleared a Rs. 997.65-crore package for the development of Technopark over the next five years.

The Cabinet which met recently accorded administrative sanction for the project which involves the development of phase 1, 2, and 3 of Technopark, Thiruvananthapuram, Technocity, and Technopark, Kollam. The funds will be utilised for land acquisition, development of infrastructure, and marketing activities.

An amount of Rs. 69 crore has been allocated for the financial year 2015- 16. The outlay for the subsequent years is Rs. 285 crore (2016-17), Rs. 2 05 crore (2017-18), Rs. 211 crore (2018-19), and Rs. 208 crore (2019-20).

Started in 1990 as a public institution with two companies and 155 employees, Technopark today has assets of Rs. 1,050 crore, including 766 acres and 70.20 lakh sq ft of built up space across the three campuses.

The park generates tax revenue of Rs. 100 crore for the government. Construction of 35 lakh sq ft of buildings is progressing.

Technopark is now home to 350 companies employing 47,000 people. Another 56,000 employees are expected to join the workforce over the next five years. — Special Correspondent.
