Schwing Stetter looking at setting up new manufacturing plant in India.

German construction equipment manufacturer Schwing Stetter is looking at setting up a new plant in India, expecting a growth in the sectors it is present in, in future. While plans are in preliminary stage, the company is looking at various States to set up the plant, which is expected to come up with an investment of Rs. 100-200 crore.

Anand Sundaresan, vice-chairman and managing director, of Schwing Stetter India said that with the infrastructure sector expected to see a growth in the near future, the company will have to look for setting up of another factory.

He said that the company is contemplating various options including setting up the facility in Tamil Nadu itself, where it already has four manufacturing plants in a premise near Chennai. The other places in the company's radar includes Gujarat, Maharashtra (Pune) and even Odisha, since most of its labourers in Chennai are migrants from Odisha and nearby states and a facility in Odisha would ensure availability of workers, he said.

The availability of good quality vendor base would be another criteria for selecting a geography for manufacturing facility.

'Currently we are running at 60-65 per cent capacity utilisation, which could go up if the market grows at a higher rate this year. However, plans are in a nascent stage,' said Sundaresan.

The company, which has its stronghold in concreting machine manufacturing, has recently expanded its porfolio into material handling machinery, by launching a tower crane. It has recently launched a self loading mixer, which almost completes its portfolio of concreting machines.
