Second Bridge on River Mahanadi Soon.

Work on the second bridge over river Mahanadi will begin soon.

To be built at the cost of Rs. 109 crore, the 1500 metre-long bridge will connect Nelson Mandela Chhack near the Ring Road in Sambalpur town with Chaunrpur village on the other side. Executive Engineer of Public Works Department, Sambalpur, Sanjay Sahu said a construction firm which had quoted the lowest price has been finalised and the file in this regard sent to State Government for approval.

Currently, one has to travel a distance of about 25 km to reach Chaunrpur and vice versa. Once the bridge is constructed, it would reduce the distance substantially.

Moreover, it will also help ease off traffic on NH-6 as the Ring Road connects both NH-6 and NH-55 on either sides.

'It will also provide alternate connectivity of Sambalpur with Bargarh besides to gram panchayats of Chaunrpur, Baijamunda, Kalamati and Aamsada Katapali,' said Sahu.

Earlier the bridge was proposed to be constructed over river Mahanadi between the Sadak Ghat along the Ring Road in Sambalpur town and Mundo Ghat located across the river.
