Shah Inaugurates New Residential Complex for BSF Personnel at Agartala Port.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday virtually inaugurated a new residential complex for Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Agartala Land Port, marking a key development for the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and other security forces in the region. The inauguration was part of the 61st Foundation Day celebrations of the SSB and was conducted virtually from Siliguri.
In his address, Shah commended the SSB for its exceptional service to the nation over the past six decades. Since its establishment in 1963, the SSB has been crucial in securing India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, covering a 2,450-kilometer stretch. The Home Minister also highlighted the force’s vital role in preventing border crimes, smuggling, human trafficking, and in combating Naxalite insurgency, particularly in the Northeast.
"SSB personnel, in collaboration with local police and other central forces, have been pivotal in eradicating Naxalite influence in regions like Bihar, Jharkhand, and the Northeast," Shah said, thanking the force for its dedication and relentless efforts.
Along with the inauguration of the Agartala complex, Shah also virtually launched eight housing projects worth around 200 crore rupees across various states. The Agartala complex, developed on a 2-acre plot with a Rs 25 crore investment, includes blocks for officers, women, subordinate officers, and jawans, ensuring improved living conditions for personnel stationed at the border.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Colonel GS Sandhu, Project Director of Land Port Authority of India, IG AK Sharma of BSF Tripura Frontier, and other senior officials from the BSF, Land Port Authority, and local government.
IG BSF Ashwani Kumar Sharma expressed gratitude for the project, highlighting its importance in boosting the morale and efficiency of the personnel. "This project, initiated under the guidance of our Home Minister, will greatly benefit our Jawans by providing better amenities, and we are thankful for it," he said. Sharma urged the personnel to make the most of the new facilities and continue their collaborative efforts with other agencies to enhance operational efficiency.
The inauguration of the residential complex is seen as a crucial step in bolstering the infrastructure and morale of security forces deployed in sensitive border regions.
