Shivakumar Asks PM Modi for ₹1.5 Lakh Cr to Fund Bengaluru Infra Projects.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar has formally requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide ₹1.5 lakh crore in financial assistance to fund critical infrastructure projects in Bengaluru. The plea, made during an event to lay the foundation stone for Phase-3 of the Bengaluru Metro, aims to tackle the significant challenges posed by the city's rapid urbanization.

Shivakumar presented a letter to the Prime Minister, outlining the need for funds for projects related to mobility, water supply, waste management, drainage, and housing. He argued that as the second-highest tax-contributing state in the country, providing approximately ₹4.5 lakh crore annually to the national exchequer, Bengaluru deserves financial support on par with Delhi to become a "truly global metropolis."

According to the Deputy Chief Minister, the requested investment will cover a wide range of projects, including the construction of urban tunnels, a Bengaluru Business Corridor, integrated solid waste management plants, elevated roads, flyovers, additional drinking water projects, new roads, and a Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS).
