Škoda plant gets 980 kWp rooftop solar carport.

Fourth Partner Energy has commissioned a 980-kWp carport for Škoda Auto India at their manufacturing facility in Aurangabad, Maharashtra.

(kWp, or kilowattpeak, is the power that solar panels generate under standard conditions, corresponding to the power generated during the best days of the year.)

This initiative, in line with the ‘Green Future’ strategy of Škoda and commissioned as part of the ‘India 2.0’ project, is expected to reduce 922 tonnes of carbon-dioxide emission each year.

The carport is spread over 8,000 sq metres, and is expected to provide covered parking space for almost 300 cars. The designated system will cover 30 per cent of the plant’s annual energy consumption by generating 1,475 MWh of power per annum.

Lubos Hradecky, Director, Production, Škoda Auto India, said, “The carport structure demonstrates how technology has enabled OEMs to transition from mainstream to cleaner alternative sources of energy.”

Saif Dhorajiwala, Founder, Fourth Partner Energy, said, “Our experience, design and engineering capabilities... helped us bag the project.”

This solar project is expected to substitute 759 tonnes of coal usage each year and the carbon offset is equivalent to planting 72,000 trees.
