Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri corridor to open tomorrow.

With the Delhi Metro’s Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake corridor set to begin passenger operations on Wednesday, commuting on the corridor will not be seamless as passengers would need to change trains twice between the two stations.

Commuters headed to Trilokpuri from Shiv Vihar will have to change trains at the Maujpur-Babarpur and IP Extension stations.

“Due to land issues at Trilokpuri, presently only one out of three trains will be going to Trilokpuri. For that passengers need to change trains at IP Extension if they are not on the train that is headed to Trilokpuri. Once the Trilokpuri-Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 stretch is operational, passengers will no longer require to change trains,” said Anuj Dayal, spokesperson of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

While train services between IP Extension and Shiv Vihar will run at a frequency of 5 minutes 12 seconds, at peak hours, trains between Trilokpuri-IP Extension will run at a frequency of 15 minutes 36 seconds.

However, despite the opening of this 17.8 km stretch, the Pink Line will not be fully operational as the corridor between Lajpat Nagar and Mayur Vihar Pocket 1 are yet to be opened.

While officials said the segment is likely to open by this December, a segment between Trilokpuri and Mayur Vihar will be further delayed due to land issues.

Other corridors of the DMRC’s Phase III network, that are yet to be functional are Dwarka-Najafgarh, Escorts Mujesar-Ballabgarh, Dilshad Garden-New Bus Adda and Noida City Centre-Electronic City.

Union Minister Hardeep Puri and Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia are expected to flag off the Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri Sanjay Lake corridor for passenger operations on Wednesday.

With the opening of this line, the DMRC network will get expanded to approximately 314 km.

“Once this corridor of the Pink Line opens, the Delhi Metro will cross the 300 km mark with 229 stations and join the league of top metro systems in the world including London and Beijing,” said Mr. Dayal.

With the opening of the Shiv Vihar-Trilokpuri stretch which is a part of the 59 km Majlis Park-Shiv Vihar corridor, will have three interchange stations at Anand Vihar ISBT (to Blue Line), Karkardooma (to Blue Line) and Welcome (Red Line).
