State Cabinet Clears Plan for Assam to Procure 500 MW Power.

The Assam Cabinet has given its post-facto approval to procure 500 MW of power from the Union coal ministry, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced.

The power will be sourced at a rate of ₹5.79 per unit, a move aimed at ensuring affordable electricity for the state's residents. Sarma shared the update on X following a cabinet meeting on Wednesday evening.

In a separate decision, the cabinet also approved a significant 1,500 MW pumped storage project in Karbi Anglong. This project is intended to boost Assam's clean energy objectives and strengthen its power infrastructure.
