Suresh Prabhu pitches for more investments in Railways.

Cooperation between State governments and investors is vital for achieving the projected development goals in the railway sector, Minister for Railways Suresh Prabhu has said.

He was speaking after laying the foundation stone for a new foot overbridge at the Kozhikode railway station recently.

The Minister said the contribution of State governments to the streamlining of rail network should go beyond submitting lists of requirements every year to the Centre. “By getting rid of this conventional system, Kerala and some other States have gained a lot in the development mission,” he pointed out. Stressing the need for more investments for the augmentation of facilities in the railway sector, the Minister said it was time lasting solutions were found to issues that hampered rapid growth. “Instead of short-term solutions, we require far-sighted plans to enhance the efficiency of railways and quality of service,” he added.
