TASL and Mahindra Aerospace Clinch Further Manufacturing Contracts from Airbus

In a testament to its commitment to 'Make in India,' Airbus has inked contracts with Tata Advanced Systems Limited (TASL) and Mahindra Aerospace Structures Private Limited (MASPL) for the procurement of commercial aircraft components at the Wings India 2024 event.

Under the agreement, TASL and Mahindra Aerostructures will be responsible for manufacturing metallic detail parts, components, and assemblies for Airbus' A320neo, A330neo, and A350 programmes. Both companies already contribute to various Airbus programmes, joining a roster of over 100 India-based suppliers offering components, engineering, and digital services.

Rémi Maillard, President and Managing Director of Airbus India and South Asia, emphasized Airbus' dedication to making 'Make in India' a focal point of its strategy in the country. The goal extends beyond supporting the growth of the Indian commercial fleet to nurturing the entire aerospace ecosystem, including the development and strengthening of manufacturing and engineering capabilities through collaborations with Indian partners.

"Today, every Airbus commercial aircraft incorporates components and technologies manufactured in India," Maillard stated. Airbus sees India as a strategic resource hub, expanding its industrial footprint with activities such as aircraft assembly, component manufacturing, engineering design and development, MRO support, pilot and maintenance training, and academic collaboration to foster human capital.

The contracts with TASL and Mahindra Aerospace represent another step in Airbus' efforts to mature the broader Indian aerospace ecosystem. The company is involved in building a Final Assembly Line for the C295 military aircraft in Vadodara under an industrial contract with TASL. Additionally, Airbus is engaged in training commercial pilots and maintenance crews to contribute to the development of skilled aviation professionals in India.

Currently, Airbus's annual procurement of components and services from India stands at about US$750 million, and the newly signed contracts are expected to make a significant addition to this figure. The move underscores Airbus's commitment to deepening its collaboration with Indian partners and fostering the growth of the aerospace industry in the region.
