Tata Motors inspects 1,200-acre site in Andhra

Hyderabad: Senior officials from Tata Motors inspected a 1,200-acre site located at Wargal in Gajwel Mandal of Medak District, about 45 km from here.

The team was led by Senior General Manager of Tata Motors, Mr M.B. Kulkarni.

According to Government officials, they enquired about facilities like water, transport, power supply and soil conditions.

An official said that the Medak District Collector, Mr Peeyush Kumar, took the team around and explained its suitability for the Tata’s Nano plant.

“Around 650 acres can be immediately handed over to Tata Motors while the remaining can be made available later. All the land is assigned and has to be only recovered from illegal occupants,” the official pointed out.

The Tata Motor’s team informed that they would discuss about the offers made by various State Governments in Mumbai later in the evening where a final decision is likely.

The site was well connected to Hyderabad-Karimnagar Rajeev Rahadari and was being expanded into a four-lane highway.

The team was expected to visit another site near Zaheerabad. However, they decided against visiting that site.

The company officials, who came here on Sunday to call on the State Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, had visited Sitarampuram village in Shahbad Mandal of Ranga Reddy District.

Apart from Sitarampuram, the State proposed sites in Nayudupeta in Nellore District, Visakhapatnam and Hindupur in Anantapur District, close to Bangalore during the meeting on Sunday.

However, it is learnt that the company officials told the State Government that they preferred land close to Hyderabad.
