Tata Power installs biogas units.

Tata Power said it has installed 36 biogas plants across eight villages at Mundra and Mandvi in Gujarat. The company has a 4,000 MW power plant in Mundra. The biogas units were installed in association with Tata Power Community Development Trust. The cost of each biogas unit is Rs. 26,200, of which Rs. 18,000 is invested by Tata Power and Rs. 8,200 by the local beneficiaries. The project has resulted in a monthly savings of Rs. 300 to a household, which was earlier spent on firewood and kerosene. A daily input of 40 kg of cow dung generates biogas sufficient for the cooking purpose of a five-six member family. Maintenance of the unit is simple, a release from Tata Power said.
