The Telangana government has hinted that solar power generation capacity of 1,000 MW is likely to be added within the next 18 months and the State could invite another round of expression of interest for 500 MW capacity.

Speaking at the three-day Electri and Renew Expos here, G Raghuma Reddy, Chairman and Managing Director of Southern Power Distribution Company of Telangana, said the government is also pursuing and encouraging roof top solar power generation.

The State expects to partly meet Hyderabad's requirement of about 2,000 MW through solar roof top installations.

The expos kicked off here at the Hitex exhibition centre, highlighting new and innovative products and renewable energy solutions.

Organised by the Telangana State Southern Power Distribution Company Limited and Telangana New Renewable Energy Development Corporation along with Indian Society for Automation & Control, the show seeks to encourage energy saving and promote new generation products.

During the show, speakers mentioned that the electrical industrial scenario in the country is expected to witness sweeping changes by the year 2021.
