Telangana to expedite power project implementation.

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao recently reiterated the Government's commitment to augment fresh capacity and ensure that there is no power deficit in the State within three years.

Reviewing the progress of power projects in the State, the chief minister felt that the power generation plants need to be developed by the State undertaking as it would ensure transparency and accountability.

According to a statement from the Chief Minister's Office, during the review meeting where officials of BHEL were present, the Chief Minister said that the necessary environmental clearances for setting up new power projects with total installed capacity of 7600 MW in Nalgonda district of the state would be secured soon.

BHEL, which has been mandated to implement two coal-based thermal power projects in phase one expects to complete the Rs. 3,810-crore, 800 MW Kothagudam power plant within two years and Rs. 4200- crore, 1080 mw Manuguru power project within three years, according to B. Prasada Rao, CMD of BHEL.

The State issued a cheque of Rs. 350 crore to BHEL as a part of the funding for the implementation of these projects. While the designs for both the plants have been completed, civil works are expected to start in these two projects.

Referring to the 1200 MW power project being developed by Singareni Collieries Company Limited at Jaipur in Adilabad district, the Chief Minister wanted the project to be expedited as this would have big impact on bridging the demand supply gap. Rao had recently visited the power project site and indicated his interest to further ramp this project capacity. BHEL is engaged in the project.
