Tenders for Smart Grid Project to open soon.

The tenders for the first phase of a Rs.7,000-crore Smart Grid Project for the Millennium City will open on July 22.

The information was given at a meeting of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar with Union Minister of State for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy Piyush Goyal in New Delhi on Monday.

The Smart Grid Project for Gurgaon Manesar Urban Complex-2031 has been divided into three parts. The first part, which is for Sectors 1-57, has been further divided into four phases. The first phase, for which the tenders will be open on July 22, includes the jurisdictional area of DLF Operation Subdivision of the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (DHBVN).

Although the total cost of the project is estimated to be Rs.12,000 crore, it will be around Rs.7,000 for the first part alone.

Mr. Khattar said the project would put an end to the trend of consumption of power through generator sets.

This would not only prove beneficial for the conservation of environment, but would also put an end to the role of builders and colonisers for power supply.

Mr. Goyal said the project would prove to be a milestone in the field of power supply in the country.

The project, which was given a nod in October last year, is a one-of-its-kind initiative that will be jointly piloted by the State and Union governments.

DHBVN officials said the DLF sub-division, which caters to approximately 29,000 consumers, was selected for the first phase as it was in dire need of upgradation.
