The Boring Company Plans 150+ km Underground Network Across UAE

Elon Musk’s The Boring Company plans to develop more than 150 km of underground tunnel infrastructure across the United Arab Emirates, significantly expanding its presence beyond the Dubai Loop project. The announcement followed a $3 billion funding round led by UAE investors, valuing the tunnelling company at about $23 billion.

The planned UAE tunnel programme is expected to deploy The Boring Company’s underground transport technology on a much larger scale, although specific routes, project costs and construction packages for the wider 150-km network have not yet been disclosed. The company said the expansion would build on its existing collaboration with the UAE and would be in addition to the Dubai Loop already awarded.

The Dubai Loop, currently under construction, is planned as a 22-km underground transport network with 19 stations. Its first phase will connect DIFC and Dubai Mall at an estimated cost of Dh565 million, while the full project is expected to cost about Dh2 billion.

The larger UAE rollout could create substantial opportunities for tunnelling contractors, precast concrete suppliers, underground civil works companies, electrical and ventilation system providers, automation specialists and project-management firms as detailed packages are released.
