Trichy Corporation Receives ₹81.7 Crore for Link Road from Panjapur Terminus.

The Municipal Administration and Water Supply Department has sanctioned ₹81.7 crore for the first phase of the new link road project connecting the upcoming Integrated Bus Terminus (IBT) at Panjapur with the core city areas in Trichy.

The 9.8 km long link road will extend from the right bank of the Koraiyar River near the IBT to the right bank of the Kudamurutti River near the police checkpost on the Trichy-Karur National Highway. The project is divided into three sections: I, II, and III.

The funds allocated to Trichy Corporation will cover the construction of Section I, which spans from Panjapur to Karumandapam. This funding, provided under the Sustainable Municipal Infrastructure Finance – Tamil Nadu (SMIF-TN) scheme, includes a combination of loans and grants.

Section I of the road will feature elevated roads for 1.3 km and a 640-meter rail overbridge near Gandhi Nagar. Additionally, 2.2 km of retaining walls along the river bund will be developed, with footpaths for 1.2 km and a 1-km closed stormwater drain.

“The link road will have two lanes. So far, funds for sections I and II have been secured from various schemes. Section III, the longest stretch between Karumandapam and Woraiyur, will receive funding soon,” said a senior official.

The total estimated cost of the entire project is ₹367 crore. Section III, which will involve land acquisition, may require additional funds for compensation. While landscaping and beautification were initially planned as part of the project, the state government has removed these components to reduce the overall cost.

The project will also feature elevated stretches with approach roads at key intersections on the Trichy-Dindigul NH, Vayalur Road, and near the Kuzhumayee Amman temple behind the district collector's office. The construction is expected to begin soon, with a launch by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin anticipated during his upcoming visit to Trichy in the next month or two.
