UPMRC Inks First Consultancy Deal to Kickstart Lucknow Metro’s East–West Expansion.

The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded the first construction-related consultancy contract for the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro to a joint venture between AYESA Ingenieria Arquitectura SAU and AYESA India Pvt Ltd.

AYESA, the lowest bidder, has been selected for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract for Lucknow Metro Line-2 under Phase 1B, valued at ₹15.9 crore. The project, approved by the Centre in August 2025, has an estimated cost of ₹5,801 crore.

Lucknow Metro’s Line-2 will feature an 11.165-km corridor connecting Charbagh Railway Station to Vasant Kunj, passing through Old Lucknow, and comprising a total of 12 stations. The corridor includes an elevated stretch of 4.286 km with five stations between Vasant Kunj and Thakurganj, and an underground section of 6.879 km with seven stations between Charbagh and Niwazganj.

Under the DDC contract, AYESA will handle the detailed design of civil, architectural, electrical and mechanical works, traction systems, and the depot at Vasant Kunj.

UPMRC invited bids for the DDC contract in August 2025, with two bidders — AYESA and SYSTRA-Ardanuy JV — qualifying at the technical stage. Financial bids were opened on January 21.

According to UPMRC, more tenders are forthcoming. The tender for construction of the elevated corridor was floated on January 1 and is expected to be awarded soon, while tenders for the underground section and depot construction will be issued shortly.

The award of the consultancy contract marks the first major step toward the implementation of the East-West Corridor of the Lucknow Metro.
