ACV Auctions, the US-based digital automotive marketplace valued at $650 million, has seen its year-old technology hub in Chennai evolve into its critical nerve centre. Launched just 12 months ago with a modest team of seven, the Chennai centre now boasts 125 employees, with plans to expand to around 200 by year-end, according to Chief Operating Officer Vikas Mehta.
The company, which leverages proprietary technology and data insights to enable car dealers and commercial partners in the US to efficiently evaluate, buy, sell, finance, and transport vehicles, is experiencing rapid growth in its technology division. Globally, ACV Auctions employs about 400 professionals in its product and technology organisation. Of these, the Chennai hub currently holds the largest team, followed closely by 100 employees each at its headquarters in Buffalo, New York, and in Toronto, with additional teams based in Paris and Dublin.
The platform’s real-time auction process allows dealers to bid on vehicles, with each auction typically lasting around 20 minutes. The highest bidder who meets or exceeds the asking price wins the car, while the platform also facilitates price negotiations between buyers and sellers.
As ACV Auctions continues to expand, the Chennai centre is playing a pivotal role in driving innovation and operational excellence, reinforcing the company’s commitment to transforming the automotive marketplace globally.
