Wagh Bakri installs rooftop solar plant at Dholka facility.

Moving a step closer to reducing its carbon footprint, tea maker Wagh Bakri Group has installed rooftop solar plant at its manufacturing facility in Dholka. The plant, with a capacity of 125 kW, was installed with an investment of Rs. 1 crore, the company said.

Provisions have been made for an estimated 417 solar panels, each capable of generating 300 Watts energy per day and a combined generation of 1.90 lakh units of energy per year.

'This will meet about 20 per cent of our energy requirement of about 1 million units per annum. In its entire life cycle of about 25 years, the project will generate about 5 million units thereby reducing carbon dioxide emission to the extent of 2,225 tonnes,' said Parag Desai, Executive Director, Wagh Bakri Tea.

The solar photo-voltaic (PV) panels are German-made and supplied by Topsun Energy Ltd based in Mehsana. The project has six inverters of 20 kW and one of 5kW.

The project utilises the poly crystalline solar cell technology. It has sourced A-grade solar cells from Solartech, Taiwan and the inverters are of KACO, Germany.
