Work on SmartCity second phase soon.

A meeting of the board of directors of SmartCity Kochi held in Dubai decided to kick-start the second phase of the project in June coinciding with the inauguration of SCK01, the first IT building of SmartCity Kochi's (SCK) phase 1.

The meeting attended by the Chief Minister Oommen Chandy also reasserted the timeline of June for the inauguration of the LEED Platinum certified first building. With the completion of the second phase, 65 per cent of the entire project would be completed.

Mr. Chandy said that Dubai Emir and UAE vice-president Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum would be invited for the inauguration.

SCK has approached internationally renowned Project Management Consultants to ensure that the second building would be as cutting edge and trendsetting as its first, if not more. Proposals from the PMCs are under scrutiny and architects and building specifications will be finalised within the next few weeks.

The SCK management claimed that over 50 per cent of the space in the first building has already been confirmed for occupancy by major IT companies. The first building is expected to generate close to 5,000 jobs.

The LEED Platinum certified building with 1 lakh sq.ft on a single floor plate is designed as a 'lifestyle at work' project, offering terrace gardening, large plazas, social spaces, supporting amenities, food court, banks and ATMs among others.
