Honda to shift production of City to Rajasthan plant.

Honda Cars India Ltd. (HCIL), a manufacturer of premium cars, will shift the production of the all-new Honda City to its Tapukara plant in Alwar district of Rajasthan. The shift is to meet the rising demand for its models.

HCIL's Tapukara plant has an annual installed capacity of 1.20 lakh units, which is at present running on a single shift. The company has been producing the Honda Amaze at this plant since February 2014.

The company will not produce Honda City in August, and its production will resume in the first week of September, the company said in a statement.

With the commencement of production of the newly-launched multipurpose vehicle Honda Mobilio at the Greater Noida plant, it was decided to shift the production of Honda City to Tapukara to cater to the strong demand for all the models, it said.

'The shift of the City's production to Tapukara will ensure better availability and timely delivery of the Honda City and the newly-launched Mobilio. We have received an overwhelming response to both the City and the Mobilio, and it is necessary to maximise production at both the plants for the benefit of the customer,' said Jnaneswar Sen, Senior Vice-President, Marketing and Sales at Honda Cars India.

The company had sold 53,605 units of Honda City between January and July this year.
