Rs. 3.5 crore sanctioned for Shahu memorial construction.

The state government has sanctioned Rs. 3.5 crore for starting construction of the ambitious Rajarshi Chhatrapati Shahu Memorial on 27-acre land at Shahu Mill.

The decision will boost the project which has been delayed since its announcement in November 2012.

The Kolhapur Municipal Corporation (KMC) has appointed Pune-based firm Designs Consultants Architect Private Ltd. to prepare a detailed project report, which is likely to be submitted to the state government soon. The KMC had selected the design submitted by the firm through an open competition held in December last year.

Project co-ordinator Gauri Chorage said, 'We have not received any communication regarding the sanctioning of the funds. However, it will definitely help us in starting the project at the earliest.'

The project is estimated to cost Rs. 117 crore. Since the project comprises construction of the memorial, conservation of the existing heritage structure and landscaping, the civic administration claimed that it will take time to prepare the detailed report.
