Sri Lanka unveils new security measures at Colombo Port

Colombo: Under the Government's policy of giving priority to port development, a novel methodology of Ports Safety System was introduced at the Colombo Harbour to provide round the clock check against the trafficking of unlawful nuclear and radiation material. The system is operated under the Nuclear Power Safety Control Authority of the United States.

Ports, Aviation and Foreign Affairs Minister Mangala Samaraweera unveiled the plaque inaugurating the new safety system on January 26. Colombo Harbour is the first among ports in South Asia to be equipped with this new ports safety system.

US Ambassador Jeffrey J. Lunstead, Deputy Ministers Dayasritha Tissera and Duminda Dissanayake, SLPA Acting Chairman R.M.P.B. Wickrema, Ministry Secretary Thilak Collure, Ports Managing Director W.G. Samaratunga, Executive Director Irshad Mushin, Working Director Prasanna Kalutharage and Finance Ministry Secretary Dr. P.B. Jayasundera were present.
