Telangana seeks 500 MW surplus power from Eastern Grid.
Power starved Telangana has asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Power Minister Piyush Goyal to allocate 500 MW of surplus power from the Eastern Grid to help the State tide over the severe shortage of power in the next few months.
The Chief Minister has written letters to the Prime Minister and the Power Minister, relating the state of affairs with regard to power position in the State. The State expects a severe shortage of power during February-May. The demand from farmers too would reach a peak in the summer to protect the Rabi season.
'We have been experiencing acute power shortage ever since the State was formed on June 2, 2014. The situation's further worsened after Andhra Pradesh refused to honour the provisions of the State Reorganisation Act and the Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) that are in vogue,' he said.
The Union Ministry of Power has appointed a committee to look into the power sharing arrangement between the two States. It, however, is yet to come out with a report,' the Chief Minister pointed out.
