Adani-Backed Dharavi Redevelopment Project Rebranded as Navbharat Mega Developers

Dharavi Redevelopment Project Pvt Ltd (DRPPL), the Adani-backed company spearheading the ambitious transformation of Dharavi’s slums, has officially rebranded itself as Navbharat Mega Developers Pvt Ltd (NMDPL). The name change aligns with the company’s renewed vision of building a modern, inclusive, and vibrant community.

In a statement, NMDPL emphasized that the new name represents the company’s commitment to growth, change, and hope. The rebranding has been endorsed by the company's Board of Directors and the Ministry of Corporate Affairs.

The Dharavi Redevelopment Project, a $3 billion initiative, is focused on revitalizing 620 acres of prime land in Dharavi, one of Mumbai’s most densely populated slum areas. With over a million residents living in substandard conditions, the project aims to provide eligible families with free flats of up to 350 sq ft as part of the plan to create a "world-class" district.

While the project’s ownership remains the same—with the Adani Group holding an 80% stake and the Maharashtra state government owning the remainder—the rebranding reflects a broader vision. The name "Navbharat" (meaning 'New India') signifies the project’s potential to shape a better future, while "Mega" highlights its large-scale impact. The "Developers" component underscores the company’s role in fostering the development of a thriving community.

The rebranding also aims to avoid confusion with the Government of Maharashtra’s Dharavi Redevelopment Authority (DRP), which continues to oversee the project. The government's role remains unchanged.

NMDPL’s focus remains steadfast on executing the redevelopment with transparency, inclusivity, and the welfare of all stakeholders at the forefront. The initiative is seen as a key step toward India's goal of becoming slum-free, and NMDPL’s new name reinforces its commitment to the national cause.
