Adani Hydro Energy Five Limited (AHE5L), a wholly-owned step-down subsidiary of Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL), has entered into a significant Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) with Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for the supply of 1,250 megawatts (MW) of energy storage capacity from its upcoming Pumped Hydro Storage Projects.
The Power Purchase Agreement was officially executed yesterday, April 23, 2025, at 3:00 p.m., marking a crucial step in bolstering Uttar Pradesh's energy infrastructure and integrating reliable renewable energy sources into the state's grid.
This landmark agreement underscores Adani Green Energy's commitment to diversifying its renewable energy portfolio and venturing into crucial energy storage solutions. Pumped Hydro Storage is a well-established and efficient technology that allows for the storage of energy generated from various sources, including solar and wind, and its release during peak demand periods. This will play a vital role in ensuring grid stability and maximizing the utilization of clean energy in Uttar Pradesh.
By securing this substantial energy storage capacity, UPPCL will be better positioned to manage the intermittency associated with renewable energy generation, provide a more consistent power supply to consumers, and enhance the overall resilience of the state's power grid.
This development is anticipated to significantly contribute to Uttar Pradesh's efforts in meeting its growing energy demands through sustainable and reliable means, while also aligning with national objectives for promoting renewable energy integration and grid modernization. The financial details and timelines for the development and commissioning of the Pumped Hydro Storage Projects under this PPA are expected to be disclosed in due course.
