Adani Power Enters Nuclear Sector, Sets Up Adani Atomic Energy.
Adani Power Ltd has incorporated a wholly owned subsidiary, Adani Atomic Energy Ltd (AAEL), formally marking its entry into the nuclear energy segment, according to a regulatory filing on Thursday.
AAEL has been set up to undertake the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity derived from nuclear and/or atomic energy, signalling a strategic diversification for Adani Power beyond its predominantly coal-based generation portfolio. The newly incorporated arm has an authorised capital of ₹5,00,000, divided into 50,000 equity shares of ₹10 each, with 100 per cent shareholding held by Adani Power.
Adani Power currently operates a portfolio of 18,150 MW across eight States, making it one of India’s largest private thermal power producers. The move into nuclear energy aligns with broader policy signals from the Centre to expand private sector participation in the nuclear power value chain.
In recent statements and notifications, the government has indicated its intent to facilitate greater private involvement in nuclear energy, including through potential amendments to existing legislative frameworks. However, strategic and sovereign functions such as fuel management and safety oversight are expected to remain under government control.
