Adani Power Secures $3 Billion, 2.4 GW Thermal Plant Project in Bihar.

In a significant move for India's power sector, Adani Power announced on Thursday that it will construct a 2.4 GW coal-fired thermal power plant in the Bhagalpur district of Bihar with an investment of $3 billion.

The company has received a Letter of Intent (LoI) from the Bihar State Power Generation Company Ltd. (BSPGCL) to supply 2,274 MW of power to both North and South Bihar Power Distribution Companies.

Adani Power secured the project after being named the lowest bidder in a competitive tender process. The final power supply price is set at ₹6.075 per kWh. According to official sources, other major players, including NTPC Ltd, were also in the running for the contract.

The new facility will be a 3x800 MW Ultra-supercritical power plant built under a Design, Build, Finance, Own, and Operate (DBFOO) model. The project timeline is ambitious, with the first unit expected to be operational within 48 months of the appointed date and the final unit within 60 months.
