Adani to Partner with Bhutan on 5,000 MW Hydropower Projects.
The Adani Group and Bhutan's Druk Green Power Corporation (DGPC) have formalized their commitment to a significant expansion of hydropower capacity in the Kingdom, signing a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to jointly develop 5,000 MW of projects.
The landmark agreement was inked in Thimphu, with Dasho Chhewang Rinzin, Managing Director of DGPC, and Naresh Telgu, COO (PSP & Hydro) of Adani Green Hydro, representing their respective organizations. The signing ceremony was graced by the presence of Bhutan's Prime Minister, Dasho Tshering Tobgay, and the Minister for Energy and Natural Resources, Lyonpo Gem Tshering, along with other high-ranking officials.
This MoU strengthens the existing collaboration between DGPC and Adani, which includes the ongoing development of the 570/900 MW Wangchhu Hydropower Project. In this venture, DGPC maintains a majority stake of 51 per cent, while Adani holds 49 per cent.
Looking ahead, the ambitious 5,000 MW initiative will explore and develop a portfolio of additional hydropower and pumped storage projects. The next steps involve identifying suitable projects, preparing detailed project reports, and subsequently implementing these projects in a phased manner. This collaboration signifies a major step towards bolstering Bhutan's clean energy generation and further solidifying the partnership between the two entities in the renewable energy sector.
