Andhra CM Naidu Appeals to Centre for Approval of Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Metro Rail Projects

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu recently met Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi to seek the Centre’s approval for the Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada Metro Rail projects.

Naidu informed the Union Minister that the revised Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for both metro systems have already been submitted for approval. He stressed that early clearance is essential to accelerate development in two of the state’s fastest-growing urban centres.

Highlighting the need for modern and sustainable urban mobility solutions, the Chief Minister said that metro connectivity in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada would ease traffic congestion, enhance productivity, improve mobility for citizens, and support long-term economic growth. He urged the Union Minister to prioritise and fast-track the approval process so that groundwork for both projects can begin promptly.

During his visit to Delhi, CM Naidu also met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and requested funding support through the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme to develop Rayalaseema as a horticulture hub. Posting on X, Naidu said, “With the support of Central initiatives such as Purvodaya, Andhra Pradesh has the potential to emerge as a major growth engine for eastern India. I also requested SASCI support and Central budgetary assistance to accelerate the long-term economic development of our state.”

In addition, Naidu met Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss the progress of the BPCL Greenfield Refinery Project in Nellore. He extended an invitation to the Minister to attend the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the refinery, tweeting, “It was a pleasure to meet Shri Hardeep Singh Puri Ji today to discuss the progress of the BPCL Greenfield Refinery Project in Nellore and invite him to the foundation stone-laying ceremony.”
