Andhra Pradesh CM Naidu Appeals to Centre for Polavaram–Banakacherla Link Funding

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Friday met Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in New Delhi, formally seeking the Centre's support and financial assistance for the ambitious Polavaram–Banakacherla Link project.

The proposed project is designed to address acute water scarcity in south-central Andhra Pradesh by diverting surplus water from the Godavari River. The plan involves a phased approach, utilizing lift irrigation and tunnels to connect the water-rich and drought-prone regions.

Chief Minister Naidu presented a detailed financing proposal to the Finance Minister, building upon prior discussions with the ministry. He underscored the project's profound impact, stating it would benefit millions in drought-hit areas and serve as a pioneering model for future river-linking initiatives across India.

The Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the Polavaram–Banakacherla Link project is anticipated to be finalized by June 2025.
