Andhra Pradesh Extends Deadline for Adani Green Energy to Supply Renewable Power to December 25.

The Andhra Pradesh government has granted Adani Green Energy Limited (AGEL) an extension until December 25, 2024, to supply renewable energy under its agreement with the state. The decision was communicated to the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI), the renewable energy implementing agency (REIA), recently, according to sources.

This marks the second extension granted to AGEL, following an earlier deadline shift in January-February 2024. Under its bid commitments, AGEL is responsible for supplying 7 gigawatts (GW) of renewable power to Andhra Pradesh in three phases: 3 GW each in 2024 and 2025, and 1 GW in 2026.

Initially, AGEL was expected to deliver the first 3 GW tranche by March 2024. However, citing transmission capacity constraints, the company sought an extension earlier this year, which pushed the deadline to September 2024. The latest request for another extension, now granted, shifts the deadline to December 25, 2024.

A spokesperson for AGEL stated, “The scheduled completion date (SCOD) of the renewable project under SECI PPAs is constrained by end-to-end evacuation availability and readiness. The estimated availability of the transmission system, as per CTUIL’s updates, is April 2025, with further availability for 1 GW each in January 2026.”

SECI has reportedly adjusted AGEL's project timelines to align with these transmission system readiness dates. The company reiterated its commitment to meeting its obligations under the new schedule.

SECI did not provide a comment on the matter at the time of reporting.
