Andhra Pradesh on Track to Become Gold Hub with 50-Tonne Deposit in Kurnool.

Andhra Pradesh is poised to emerge as the country’s largest supplier of gold within the next few years, a senior state official said recently, citing significant estimated reserves in the region.

Addressing a press conference, Mukesh Kumar Meena, Principal Secretary (Mines), said that the state has identified substantial gold potential in Jonnagiri village in Andhra Pradesh, with estimated reserves of around 50 tonnes in the area alone.

“Our estimate is that 50 tonnes of gold are available in Jonnagiri itself. So, we are confident that after a few years, Andhra Pradesh will become the highest supplier of gold for the country,” Meena said.

He added that beyond Jonnagiri in Kurnool district, the state has also identified four other promising areas for gold mining, including Ramagiri, Javvakula, and Chigurukunta Bisnatam.

Officials said exploration and development work in these zones could significantly boost domestic gold production and reduce dependence on imports in the long term.
