Anna Salai-P.H. Road corridor idea takes shape.

The proposal to create a traffic corridor connecting Anna Salai and Poonamallee High Road through the congested neighbourhoods of Chetpet, Nungambakkam and T. Nagar is gaining momentum.

It was a decade ago Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) came up with the idea of a 6.5-km stretch connecting the two arterial stretches.

The Corporation modified the original alignment to create two corridors - a 3.5-km stretch from Anna Salai to Mahalingapuram and a 3-km flyover connecting Thirumalai Pillai Road and Poonamallee High Road.

'The 3-km elevated stretch connecting Poonamallee High Road and Thirumalai Pillai Road will cover five traffic bottlenecks including Chetpet junction, Sterling Road junction, Tank Bund Road junction and Valluvar Kottam High Road. There will also be additional ramps on stretches such as College Road,' said an official of the Chennai Corporation.
