AP to generate 4,000 MWs of solar power.

The Andhra Pradesh Government has embarked on an ambitious programme to generate 4,000 MWs of solar power in the Rayalaseema region of the state in the next two years.

It was stated at a review meeting held at Amaravati by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu. Three major solar parks are coming up at Anantapur, Kadapa and Kurnool and in the first phase 1250 MWs of solar power will be generated.

It was also stated at the review meeting that ten waste-to-energy plants would be set up in the State, seven of them by 2017 and the rest by 2018. The CM instructed the officials to expedite the work on these projects.

He also reviewed the progress of the wok on the new capital construction at Amaravati and also the progress on the construction of the temporary secretariat. He told the officials that Sakamuru reservoir should be built in the capital region by June 2017 and the waterfront should be developed into a world class park.

Reviewing the work on the airports in the state, the Chief Minister said the land acquisition for the new international airport coming up at Bhogapuram in Vizianagaram district to serve the needs of Visakhapatnam region should be expedited. The officials told him that 82 per cent of the land had been acquired, and only the environmental clearance was awaited. GMR group, GVK group, Adani Ports, Essel Infra and the Tatas are in the race for the airport project.
