Balochistan plans new port and shipyard

Quetta: Balochistan province in Pakistan plans to construct deep-sea port and a shipyard at Makran coast.

The site for the new port will be decided after the proposal is finalised. The shipyard will be set up at Ormara.

Balochistan also plans to to set up Reconstruction Opportunity Zones (ROZs) in different areas of the province for providing resources for resolving the long time financial crisis of the province.

The ROZ will be established in Quetta, Khanozai, Makran, Nasirabad, Khuzdar and other areas where industries will be built with US financial assistance. The US will provide raw materials as well as the duty-free access to its markets.

In order to strengthen communications, Quetta-Taftan railway track is being upgraded and the first international goods train will leave Islamabad for Turkey via Quetta and Iran on August 14, 2009.

The National Economic Council (NEC) has approved Rs 50 billion for Balochistan under the federal PSDP.
