Bangla Gov takes up Tk 10,000-mn ports development project

Dhaka: The government has taken up a number of projects involving about Tk 1,000 crore to enhance efficiency of the country’s principal maritime port in Chittagong by putting an end to container congestion, Shipping Minister Akbar Hossain said in Jatiya Sangsad Tuesday.


The projects include setting up a container terminal at New Mooring area, purchasing of 141 container handling equipments including gantry cranes, dredging in the river Karnaphuli with bank protection, setting up a number of yards with the handling capacity of 1.66 lakh TEUs and setting up a river-based Inland Container Depot at Pangaon jointly by the CPA and BIWTA.
