Bayer MaterialScience expands production facility in Tamil Nadu.

Bayer MaterialScience has expanded its facility at Cuddalore in Tamil Nadu for production of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPU).

The extension of the production facility was inaugurated by Ajay Durrani, managing director of Bayer MaterialScience and Marius Wirtz, global head of its TPU business.

With the investment, the annual capacity of the Cuddalore site will increase to 6,000 metric tonne from 2,500 metric tonne.

The Cuddalore site supplies TPU under the brand name Desmopan for applications in hose, tubing, belt profile (HTBP), sports and leisure (Shoes), IT, cables, industrial mechanical, automotive, compounding and films and coatings segments. The company is the local market leader and offers a wide range of innovative TPUs from both Bayer's local and global TPU portfolio.

'We are now even better positioned to meet the strong global and local demand for TPU,' Durrani said.
