BharatBenz Boosts Intercity Mobility with Launch of 19.5-Tonne Heavy-Duty Bus.
Daimler India Commercial Vehicles (DICV), a wholly owned subsidiary of Daimler Truck AG, recently introduced the BB1924, an upgraded heavy-duty bus developed for India’s fast-growing intercity passenger transport sector.
With a Gross Vehicle Weight of 19,500 kg, the BB1924 is designed to meet the key requirements of intercity operators looking for higher payload capacity, improved operating economics and better passenger comfort amid rising travel demand. With the Indian bus market valued at $51 billion and projected to grow at a 6 per cent CAGR through 2030, the new chassis strengthens BharatBenz’s presence in the premium intercity segment.
Andamuthu Ponnusamy, Head of Bus Business at DICV, said field trials with major operators on routes such as Mumbai–Pune, Delhi–Jaipur and Chennai–Bangalore have shown a significant reduction in total cost of ownership compared with existing options.
