Bhilai Steel installs second furnace in plate mill

Kolkata: In a move to meet the growing market requirement for normalized plates, Bhilai Steel Plant (BSP) of Steel Authority of India limited (SAIL) has installed a second normalizing furnace in the Plant’s Plate Mill with in-house efforts and expertise.

The bhoomi-poojan for erection and commissioning the furnace was done by Managing Director (MD) R Ramaraju recently.

The company officials said that the market requirement of normalized plates was growing every year. The existing capacity of normalizing furnace in BSP is 160000 tonne per year.

As against this capacity, the BSP produced 201000 T of normalized plates in 2007-08 was.

The officials said that about 50 per cent of the plate demanded from BSP was for normalized plates.
