BPCL, Coal India to Form JV for Coal Gasification Project in Maharashtra.

State-run Bharat Petroleum Corporation Ltd (BPCL) recently said it will form a joint venture with Coal India Ltd (CIL) to set up a coal gasification project in Maharashtra.

In a filing to the BSE, BPCL said the project will be established at Western Coalfields Ltd (WCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, in Maharashtra. The proposed joint venture company will be responsible for the construction, operation and maintenance of the coal gasification facility.

Under the partnership, Coal India will hold a majority 51 per cent stake in the joint venture, while BPCL will own the remaining 49 per cent, the company said.

The project is part of efforts by state-run firms to promote cleaner and more efficient use of domestic coal resources.
