BPCL Expands Renewable Portfolio with New CBG Unit in Brahmapuram.
Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan recently inaugurated the Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) at Brahmapuram near Kochi.
Addressing the event online, Vijayan said Kochi has become the first city in the State to commission a CBG plant for the treatment of biodegradable waste. He described the initiative as a significant step forward in the scientific management of biodegradable municipal waste in Kerala.
The plant is designed to process 150 tonnes of source-segregated biodegradable municipal solid waste (MSW) per day. It will produce 5.6 tonnes of compressed biogas and 28 tonnes of organic manure daily.
The Chief Minister noted that the project is mutually beneficial for BPCL and the Kochi Corporation, strengthening waste management infrastructure while contributing to clean energy generation in the city.
